How big were you thinking?

I just came back from watching a documentary on Ai Wei Wei and I am floored.

I am excited by the determination and possibility he opens up by his art/ existence and confronted by the comparatively menial and ridiculous “problems” that I believe that I face. The hurdles and limitations, the boundaries that I am struggling with within myself… paled, demolished, evaporated.

Ok. Thank you. I think I get it. THERE IS SO SO MUCH MORE!

If you haven’t seen the documentary (and he has many) see if it is playing near you. Ai Weiwei: Never sorry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Av1pIb52lbA&feature=fvwre

Coincidentally it is election night in America and I was sitting there watching this Chinese man on a huge screen be denied simple human rights by a dictatorship and thinking… “Wow, this is another world!” AND at the same time thinking “we really aren’t so far away from this, not far away at all.” When laws are there to enforce government and government is there to enforce the laws that keep it afloat. When logic and reason are thrown out the window…

So on this night that I’m very anxious about the result of the election tomorrow, in the wake of  Sandy, having already voted, I think the sane thing to do is continue making art and continue pushing and questioning.

I have a lot of questions and I will for certain continue to ask more. For me questions are a basis for making work, a search for answers, a curiosity, a surface to scratch, under which there are always more things to ask and to find.

Lately I’ve been looking at the perceived WHO’s of life surrounding me. I would like to explore one question per week for the next seven weeks until Christmas. Each week I will research and create a five minute video or performance based on the question and post it up here.

What I would love from you is if you could let me know which questions you think are most important or interesting, to you, to the world, to ask and comment the question along with any other ideas that you have. Whatever you pick is what I’ll research.

You are important to me. You are an amazing human being just a button click away. I think that is phenomenal.
